Welcome to the Biblical Leadership at Work podcast. I'm your host, Jason Woodard. Thank you for joining me again this month. Today I wanna talk about something that every leader experiences and honestly something every organization will wrestle with, and that is chaos. If you've been in leadership for any amount of time, you've seen it. Confusion about priorities, misalignment between teams, constant firefighting, people working hard, but not always in the same direction or on the right things. And here's the reality. Chaos does not take any effort. It happens naturally, but what does take effort is bringing order. And what I want to show you today is that bringing order from chaos is not just good leadership, it's biblical leadership. Let's start with this foundational truth found in one Corinthians 1433. For God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. That's who God is. He is not a God of confusion, not a God of disorder, not a God of chaos. He is a God of peace, of clarity, and of order. And as leaders, we are called to reflect his character and how we lead. But this didn't start in the New Testament. We can go all the way back to creation in Genesis one, two, and three. We read the earth was without form and void. And God said, let there be light. The earth was formless, empty and dark. In other words, chaos. And what does God do? He brings structure. He brings separation. He brings clarity. He brings order. That's the pattern. And as leaders made in his image, we step into messy, unclear, sometimes chaotic environments, and we are called to bring order. So what does that mean for us? It means that leadership is not just about results, it's about creating clarity. Where there is confusion, it's about bringing alignment. Where there is fragmentation, it's about establishing structure where there is disorder. And if we're honest, a lot of organizational pain comes from the opposite. People don't know what's important. Teams are working against each other. Expectations are unclear. Decisions are inconsistent. That is chaos. And here's the hard truth. If there is consistent confusion in an organization. Leadership has to own it because Godly leadership moves things toward clarity and peace, not confusion, and in the end, that will bring results. Scripture actually gives us insight into where chaos comes from. In James three 16, we read. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder. That's powerful. Disorder or chaos is often the result of what's going on in the human heart. Selfish, ambition, pride, lack of humility, competing agendas. So this isn't just an operational issue, it's a hard issue. You can put all the systems you want in place, but if leaders are driven by ego or self-interest. Chaos will find its way back in. That's why biblical leadership always starts with leading yourself first. So let's get really practical. What does it look like to bring order as a leader? I'm gonna give you three points to consider. Number one, clear structure and expectations. One Corinthians 1440 says, but all things should be done decently in an order that applies directly to leadership. We should be giving clear roles, clear priorities, clear processes, and clear communication. Our teams should know what's expected, what success looks like, and how decisions get made if they don't, that's where chaos creeps in. Number two, wise delegation here. We can look at Moses in Exodus 1821 through 23. We find him trying to do everything himself, and as you would expect, it's not working. It's overwhelming. It's inefficient and it's unsustainable. It is something I've seen many, many leaders struggle with. But for Moses, Jethro steps in and he says, look, you need structure. You need layers of leadership, you need to delegate. And what happens when Moses does that? Things begin to function the way they should order is established as leaders. One of the fastest ways we create chaos is by holding too much, not trusting others and failing to build structure around us. We must learn to delegate. And third, surround yourself with strong counsel. Proverbs 1114 says, where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety, no structure, no leadership, no guidance. That leads to instability. Strong leadership and wise counsel brings stability, and stability is a form of order. As leaders, we need wise counsel around us. We do not, nor will we ever have all of the answers. So how do we connect this to our work? In your day-to-day leadership, this plays out in very practical ways. Things like a simple operating system, consistent meeting rhythms, clear KPIs, defined accountability. These aren't just good business tools. They're ways that we bring order into environments that naturally will drift towards chaos because organizations don't drift towards clarity. They drift towards confusion. Unless leaders step in and bring structure. So let me leave you with this. Every leader listening to this right now has an area of chaos. You'll already know where it is. It might be a team that's misaligned. Maybe it's a process that's broken, or a role that is unclear, or maybe a meeting that's ineffective or a priority that keeps shifting. Here's the question, where has God called you to bring order that you've been tolerating as chaos, and here's your challenge for the next month. Identify one area of chaos in your leadership, not 10, just one. And take action to bring clarity. Define the expectation, simplify the process. Align the team, establish structure, because that's what biblical leaders do. They don't accept confusion. They move things towards clarity, alignment, and peace. Now, if you want to dive deeper into this idea of leaders who bring order to chaotic environments, I would highly recommend the book. Built to beat chaos by my brother and friend Gary Harper. It's a practical compliment to what we talked about today. thank you for listening again this month. I hope and pray that this encourages you and helps you to grow as a leader. If it was helpful, I'd ask you to share it with someone else who might benefit. And if you haven't already, take a minute and leave a review for the show.
